CVMC Meeting —April 20, 2010

Thanks to Marilyn and Michael Beckwith for arranging our meeting location at Mimi's Cafe in Short Pump.

Attendance — We had 20 members present and were honored to be visited by Tom Parker, a former member of the club, who was actually present at the very first CVMC meeting, along with George Ferrell, founding father of the CVMC. In addition, Tom drove the same car that he had at the first meeting—a 1990 Mariner Blue Miata. Several of us went out with him after the meeting and looked at his turbocharged car with racing suspension and other modifications. A thing of beauty, (including a Tonto cover on the passenger side) and a testament to the quality of the Miata. (See Mazda MX-5 Miata FAQ for a look at the Mariner Blue MX-5 available 1990-93.)

Business

April 24 Rally — Check the Web site after 9:00 p.m. on April 23 to see if the rally is a go.
We discussed the tentative plan for our rally this coming Saturday, April, 24. At the time of our meeting the weather forecast for Saturday indicated a good chance of rain, so Bud and Susan will make a go/no go decision on Friday night and post the decision on our Web site by 9:00 p.m.

  • Saturday, April 24—From Here to Vesuvius
8:15 a.m. meet at Sheets Station, 2600 James Anderson Highway (60) 7.5 miles west of 288/60 intersection. Powhatan, VA 23138-7401, Phone 804-598-9474, intersection of Dorset Road and 60. Four hour drive, three rest stops. Lunch at Devils Backbone Brewery and Grill. Read more >

Our information sharing plan
We discussed our current means of sharing information via e-mail and the Web site vs. the former mailed newsletter. Everyone agreed that the electronic format seems to be working. Bud welcomed input from club members and discussed the potential for regular writing about some topic of interest.

May Meeting
Christi Connell has volunteered to host the May meeting and will make arrangements for a restaurant. Once reservations have been made, we will post this on our Web site.

Help needed
May Rally - A rally planner/leader is needed for May. However, if we do not have a rally on Saturday, April 24, Bud and Susan will fill the May slot with the rally mentioned above.

Picnic plans for June
Rockahock was booked up for July. Christi is checking on another date.

Treasurer’s Report (Christi)
We have about $1400 in the bank, with a few more membership renewals during the meeting. I failed to write down the exact numbers.

Web site and a host of graphics work
Susan continues to enhance the Web site with information and images. She has also designed and ordered new business cards. These were distributed during the meeting and everyone is encouraged to invite other Miata MX5 owners to join the club. Ask in person or slip a card in the door of a parked Miata. Ron Marchant is our role model/ambassador in this department.

New Membership Packet (Susan)
Our new membership packets now consist of: a membership form, welcome letter, membership list, past president’s list, ten business cards, one magnetic business card... and coming soon, CVMC cap(s) and lanyard.

Letter to New Miata Owners
A congratulatory letter and invitation to join our club has been developed and will be taken to local Mazda dealers for distribution to new MX5 owners.
