2025 Meetings and Events
CVMC meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. We meet at 6:00 p.m. at the Hogshead Cafe, 8902 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA. Members gather at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy a meal and social time, which is followed by a discussion of club business and the opportunity to share news about our cars or other information of interest to club members.
Drives, tours and special events are held throughout the year and provide opportunities to enjoy a group Miata drive through the beautiful Virginia countryside. Although the schedule varies, drives are generally held on the Saturday following the monthly meeting, weather permitting.

Invitation for overnight drive to Hershey, PA, Saturday, March 8
Greg, Dee, Lisa and Brian will be driving to Hershey, PA on Saturday, March 8th.
The plan is to leave home early (7am?) and drive to the AACA Museum in Hershey (approx four and a half hours away). We would spend about 2+ hours there, then maybe go to Chocolate World for a late lunch, buy lots of candy, then perhaps stop by the AACA Headquarters building.
We will stay at the TRU by Hilton, in Grantville, Pa. for one night, and head home the next morning. If you would like to join them, please make your own individual hotel reservations.
This will be a spontaneous adventure. All who want to participate are welcome. There is no time or place to leave from, no caravan of cars to hook up with, no set time to arrive at any of the destinations, and no official time or place to have dinner. You can checkout any of the potential destinations online. This may make some of us feel like college kids, just traveling with friends, with very little structure. If you have any questions, please text us, and if you decide to come along, just let us know!

Drive: Saturday, March 22
Our March 2025 Cruise will have us gathering at 9am for a 9:30-ish start from the Bruster’s Ice Cream/Sheetz gas station located at 2602 Anderson Hwy in Powhatan, with a mid-point stop at the Exxon Station/McDonalds located at 16042 N. James Madison Hwy in Dillwyn and a destination of La Parota Mexican Restaurant at 1521 S. Main Street in Farmville. These are all three familiar locations to many of us.
If you will be joining us, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE MEETING by Thursday, March 13th and RSVP FOR THE CRUISE by Tuesday, March 18th using this SIGNUP GENIUS link: RSVP Signup Genius for March Dinner Meeting and Cruise.
Our first leg will be over familiar roads through Powhatan and Cumberland and then into Dillwyn. Our second leg will be over mainly new roads with a trip through the campus of Hampden-Sydney College just south of Farmville. This will be a relatively short cruise of about 87 miles but over nice country roads with each leg about an hour long. Judy and I saw a small zebra on the left at mile marker 12.3 in Powhatan and two Amish horse drawn buggies in Prince Edward county on a Sunday route recon on March 2nd.

If you will be joining us, PLEASE RSVP using this link to SIGNUP GENIUS by Tuesday, May 20 so Judy and Roger will know how many to expect for the cruise and picnic. Thanks!
We will start our cruise at:

ARRIVE AT 9:00 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. departure.
We will travel through New Kent County then down towards Williamsburg. Our mid-point stop will be at the Jamestown Settlement Facility at 2110 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA.

Our destination is Roger and Judy’s home where we'll have a picnic on their patio at:
Casa de Judy
11019 Chippoke Place
Chester, VA 23831
Once we arrive at Judy's home, please do not park on any cultivated grass! They, and their neighbors, have irrigation heads placed along the roadway edges. The Bennett’s are having a new house built next door to them so be cautious of any construction debris that may be left on the roadway.
THE PICNIC LUNCH...
REMEMBER to bring your own picnic lunch and beverage, a camp chair, one per car should work! Judy has seating for 20 folks on the patio and 10 or so in the “Chesapeake Room” (4 season room attached to their house) and more in the house if weather pushes us indoors.
Roger and Judy will have some bottled water and a limited beer selection available.
Volunteers to lead the 2nd group and the 2 trail cars are needed and appreciated.

Drive: Saturday, July 19 - Cruise from Powhatan to Blackstone
Many THANKS to Roger and Judy who volunteered to host our July cruise from Powhatan to Blackstone, VA. We hope you can join us for a lot of shady stretches along the route and lots of roads without lane markings!
If you will be joining us, PLEASE RSVP using this link to SIGNUP GENIUS by:
- Thursday, July 10 for the Dinner Meeting
- Tuesday, July 15 for the Cruise & Lunch at Mitchell's
NOTE: We respectfully ask... if you sign up for lunch at Mitchell's following the drive, PLEASE make every effort to honor your commitment as these small locally owned restaurants often have to bring on additional wait and kitchen staff to accommodate groups of our size. If we have no shows, they may not recoup their costs of the additional staff and frankly, is an embarrassment to our club, potentially giving us an unfavorable reputation within the locally owned restaurant community. Thanks!
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. & depart at 9:30 a.m.
We will start our cruise at:
Sheetz Gas Station/Bruster’s Ice Cream Stand
2600 Anderson Hwy
Powhatan, VA
(The older, most eastern of the 2 Sheetz’s in Powhatan on US 60 Anderson Hwy.)
We will cruise very familiar roads for the first 32 miles (ZEBRA ALERT at mile 12.3/4 on the left - seen on recon drive on Jul 5th - brown rather than white stripes - hmm?) leading us to Cumberland and then onto new (to Roger and Judy, that is) roads leading us to our mid-cruise stop (a.k.a. “AARP break”—thank you Greg) at the new WAWA Gas Station in Farmville just south of the intersection of US 15 and US 460
We will then meander mainly backroads to our final destination for lunch:
Mitchell’s Restaurant
403 N. Main Street
Blackstone, VA.
We will have a private dining room/hall/bar but all should walk through the main entrance to appreciate the small town restaurant ambience. We will see if anyone can guess what the original purpose of the building was.
The Inn at Blackstone
Very soon upon entering the city limits of Blackstone you will see on our right “The Inn at Blackstone” which has an interesting history as first an all girls “finishing school", then a United Methodist Assembly (retreat) center (looking at you Jerry) and now as a privately owned event venue.
Foreign Affairs Security Training Center
For years, Blackstone has been the host city for what was Ft. Pickett, now Ft. Barfoot, and reportedly soon again to be renamed Ft. Pickett, so you will see some military/freedom related appreciation stuff in the restaurant. Ft. Pickett is the Virginia National Guards main tactical training center so there are lots of ties to that within the community. Ft. Picket was also a host installation for a good number of Afghanistan refugees that were resettled to the US at the close of that conflict. Ft. Pickett’s latest claim to fame is the home of the new State Department’s Foreign Affairs Security Training Center to include 3 defensive driving tracks. We are not sure yet of the entrance ID/registration requirements for who might want to wander about the post, but we will be looking into it and hope to know by our monthly meeting.

We will meet at the:
EXXON STATION
1420 Broad Street Road
Oilville, VA 23129
Please arrive at 8:00 a.m., and we will depart at 8:30 a.m.
Our ride will be 153 miles with two filly and colt stops. We will end our stampede at Stable Craft Brewery in Waynesboro.
STABLE CRAFT BREWERY & KITCHEN
375 Madrid Road
Waynesboro, VA 22980
We have been there several times for lunch and each time the inside is pretty empty, and we have never had trouble getting a seat. We may be spread out using several tables, but to reserve a private room was overpriced. There is also outside seating and games. Each person/couple will order their food and drink at the bar. Attached is a menu if you would like to take a look beforehand.
Giddy-up!

ABOUT THE HAWS BRANCH PLANTATION
Located in Amelia County, the Haw Branch Plantation was established in 1745 by Thomas Tabb. His youngest daughter married Jonas Barkdale and their descendants owned the plantation until 1872. The Plantation originally consisted of 25,000 acres and was situated on a navigable creek which fed into the Appomattox river which was the primary node of transportation in colonial times.
Murray Blacker purchased the Plantation in 1872 and converted it to an educational farm to teach young English gentlemen modern agricultural methods. Named "Abercon Colony", it became a self sustaining community with its own post office, school house and related buildings including all the associated farming outbuildings. In recent decades, the Plantation was open to the public as a museum although it is now privately owned by Brenden Burke and his wife and operates as Glendale Farm. Brenden has agreed to allow our Club to visit the Mansion and tour the grounds on Saturday, September 20 as part of our Club Drive.
The home is a federal style mansion and many of the interior furnishings are original to the early period of the Plantation. We will tour the first floor of the home and also tour several of the "dependencies" located on the large grounds. I was impressed with the originality and attractiveness of the first floor of the home and I believe that Club members will find the visit an informative experience.
Please note that the Plantation is located in rural Amelia County and well off the primary county roads. The last mile and half to the mansion is a groomed gravel road. We will travel at approximately 10 - 15 mph while traversing the gravel lane.

Drive: Saturday, October 25 - The Circle de Midlo Cruise
Roundabouts, (aka circles)—sometimes loved, often disliked—are a defining feature of Richmond, especially in the Midlothian area. On this cruise, you’ll travel through ten of them, winding across Chesterfield, Powhatan, and Amelia Counties. Both the starting point and destination are the same—we end up where we started, making this cruise a true circle. The cruise blends main roads with quiet back roads, offering plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting and engaging.
So come along and discover why roundabouts—and the roads that connect them—make for an unforgettable day cruising the Circle de Midlo. By the end, perhaps those who love them will appreciate them even more, and those who hate them may find themselves warming up to the experience or at least hate them a bit less.
